"EAGLE"
| As a child in New Zealand I was transfixed by the extraordinary Catholic banners at my old church and I have memories of street processions and kneeling on hard seal to do decades of the Rosary while obsessing over the beauty of them. I enjoy texture and I was immediately drawn to the crazy quilting of the United States. My young life was filled with Western movies and horse riding and I toiled for years in demolition work in Lorado cowboy boots. I relate. This artwork is an homage to those richly embroidered artworks and to the Western way of life and the often blue collar working man, be he on a ranch, a building site or service or hunting in his paradise. America lives on the roads and buildings the built and in the freedom and security they lived and died for. This artwork which worked it’s way onto my drawing board while I was infirmed and ill last year seeks to simply remember the toil and passions of working souls and inspire a renewed attitude to look for what we might do for our societies rather than what our societies might do for us. It represents a thousand other things as well, make of it all what you will. I have created space for only five of these artworks into the NZ market. They will be marked as Artists Proofs. If I retain enough health and attitude I will present them as numbered in AO to the US market. |
